Supermarket Reef, sometimes called Limestone Reef, is located in Limestone Bay on the southeastern side of Water Island, about a mile from St. Thomas. The reef is somewhat unusual for this area because the coral formations grow toward the island rather than along parallel with the island. This creates a beautiful spur and groove coral formation, which sort of looks like the aisles of a supermarket.
The best way to dive Supermarket is to start by swimming along the bottom of the reef where it meets the sand, and work your way back, cruising up and down the aisles of the supermarket. The depth to the sand at the bottom of the reef is about 60 feet, but the majority of the dive is between 30 and 40 feet.
