Scuba divers have found an 18th century Spanish Galleon in the south of Sicily, Italy, near the island of Capo passero (Isole di Capopassero). It was found by an off-duty Italian tax policeman who was diving around Cape Passero. After he called in his colleagues and a thorough search they discovered beside cannons, also the wooden remains of the vessel. The wreck is in surprisingly good shape said Costanzo Ciaprini, commander of the Messina Naval Division. It is most likely that the Galleon was sunk by the Spanish to prevent it falling into the hands of the British during the battle of Cape Passaro in 1718, but historici cannot verify this yet.
